Museum Fun

One of the museums that we went to on Saturday, was the One Room Schoolhouse in Old Sacramento.  It couldn't have been a better fit with our homeschooling experiences.  I am lucky enough to have an extra room in our house that I am able to dedicate to our One Room Schoolhouse.  While touring about the schoolhouse and wishing I was able to be back in time (the Pioneering Era is my favorite) to the 1800's.  While looking, they had some papers that we can purchase for donations, and I picked up a few... 'Moral Code for School Children,' and 'Punishments' just to name a few.  I often wonder if we would still be disciplining like they did back then, would we have the issues that we face today with children disobeying and having no respect for their elders?  In my own humble opinion, that would be a great big NO!  We would have nice and civilized children who show respect to their things, elders, and life in general.  I just had to buy the list of Punishments to hang in our little One Room Schoolhouse.  The kids even got a kick out of it.  I find it fascinating just that their morals and expectations of their children are so different from today.  Here is the list of punishments, I just have to share...

Start is Slow Going

Man, we have just been having the hardest time getting back into the groove again after break. The kids do there Devotionals, Language Arts, and Math... but we forget about Science and History. Well, I switched it up today and redid the order that we do things. Before, we always did Science and History in the afternoons, but I am done doing and teaching school by 2... we would never get these done because the kids would be taking their time doing the most important things first. Well, in order for me to want to do History and Science, I had to bump them up to right after Devotionals. I just had to, we were falling way behind in those two subjects. Luckily my kids are pretty independent learners (which I love!). If they have questions, I will answer and help out of course. Hopefully this new arrangement in subjects will work out for all of us.

1st week of the new year

Well, we have been dusting off the cobwebs and re-awakening our minds. This week has gotten off to a slow start, but we are managing on getting back onto a schedule. With the holidays over and family still coming and going, funerals and just plain beautiful weather keep us on our toes. The one thing that has been added to our curriculum is the art of music and lessons (which I am teaching as we don't have the money to pay for them). The drums, guitar and piano have joined the Stamps home with a fresh new sense and love. I am trying to keep up on growing our library not only with beloved books, but as well as some audio books too. It is hard to believe that a month of vacation has passed us already, that was quick! More to come on our updated lessons, as I put the finishing touches on and get back into the groove of my ever loving lists and schedules.

Slacking off

Man, I really have slacked in the department of updating not only this blog, but all of my blogs. I am making a New Years resolution to keep everyone updated on the family and our schooling experiences. I had a bout of depression (and was house hunting as well -- but lost the house we were wanting) towards the end of last year and didn't get much done, not only with the kids and their school work, but the house work also suffered some. But, I am on the upswing and ready to get going. I think that we will be starting fresh with school for the most part. A fresh new year with a fresh new start. I will keep everyone updated later this week as we get back into the school spirit around here. Hope everyone had a great Christmas and Holiday as well as a happy and fresh start to the New Year and decade.

Boy!

Man, time sure does fly when your having fun, or finishing up school. I am sorry that I have not posted in quite a while. Well, we finished up school for the most part @ the end of May. We will be starting our new school year on July 6. I figured, why not since it is gonna be hot and the kids will be inside most days due to the heat. Also, we are going to be buying our first home sometime in the near future, and I would like to have school days already behind us as we will be packing and unpacking as well as setting up house. This will also be my first year going solo and not being with a charter school... who knows, I might change my mind and decided to go back to one. AAHH! I will need to file an affidativ and of course I will sign up with HSLDA.

I will post our curriculum and schedule in the next few days as I get everything in order.
